I love everything fall.. the colors, the smells, the layers, football.. love it! But there is always a sense that it is fleeting. I love getting pictures of my kids in the fall leaves like many other moms and there is a small window of “perfect fall”. You know, that time when there are colorful leaves, the weather is still nice for “light” layers, and the wind hadn’t blown all the leaves off the trees. I feel so anxious about trying to enjoy this time of year because I know that soon it will turn to a gray cold nothingness… (can you tell I don’t LOVE winter..haha.)
We cancelled our Saturday sessions this past weekend because of sever weather that was coming out way.. and boy am I glad we did. But the afternoon was over cast and my kids were home… doing nothing. I ransacked their closets and pulled out something that kind of matched. We headed out the front door…literally… this tree is just next to our house. I just felt like if I had some picture of my kids in the fall then I could relax about it already! In the true nature of photographer’s kids they smiled for a few and then scurried off. They gave me about five minutes. Oh well… I have something! I may get them dressed up again later on, but at least I am not going to be so anxious about the leaves falling of the trees before I got their pictures now.
A few photo stats
These were taken using an 85 mm lens. I really love this focal length (although the 135mm is my favorite!) But this is great both for outside portraits and even some indoor work if you have larger rooms. The aperture opens up typically to 1.8 meaning that lots of light can get in and you can get soft beautiful backgrounds. I shot these images on cloudy white balance because..well.. it was cloudy! I wanted warmer fall looking images. I import images into adobe Lightroom and used the Looks Like Film Lightroom preset (LC01C.)
