We have yet another snow day today. My kids would be content to stay on the couch and watch movies and truthfully I would too on days like today, but we’ve had too many of those… So I forced all of us outside for a while. Layers and layers of socks, snow pants, coats, gloves, hats, and boots. (It’s always such a pain in the neck to get everyone dressed.) The boys wanted to bring their BB guns and I decided to grab my camera… which ended up having a very low battery. I did take a few pictures before it totally died! It really is my therapy on grey days to find the beauty, and the timber was so beautiful, even without much sunshine. It was worth the effort, it always is, to get outside, hike, crack the ice on the creek, sled, and shoot holes in the frozen water with BB guns.
My lens of choice lately is my Zeiss Batis 40mm , I love being able to get wide and close up with such amazing detail. Before switching to Zeiss lenses, I had a 35mm that I really did want to love, but I just didn’t ever get on that train like 90% of photographers I know did. I love portraits, and the 85mm, and 135mm always felt more “me”. I sold my 35mm, and when I get the Batis 40mm, I didn’t know if it would feel different but it really did! It’s an artistic choice for me. I love finding detail with it because it’s fast and SO sharp. I also love the wide view…. and that is a big step for me. It’s also the perfect lens indoors, and my go-to for newborn and baby sessions. That’s another blog post for another day though!
